Transponder keys for Motor Cars

Electronic, coded transponder imobiliser chips, embedded in the plastic body of the car keys were introduced from 1995. The chip is passive, so it doesn't need a battery, the code is read when you turn the key in the ignition, it is not necessary for the user to press a button, the process is fully automatic.
Most motor car owners don't even realise that their car is fitted with this technology. The car makers and main dealerships keep most of the technology for reproducing keys a closely guarded secret. However, some auto locksmiths are able to clone certain makes and models and it can work out less expensive to use an auto locksmith.
It is a highly specialized trade and you should think long and hard about who you entrust with your pride and joy. In some cases it is necessary to make alterations to the electronic engine management system using highly complex equipment, things can go wrong.
