Muswell Hill Chess Club has been in almost continuous existence since the 1880s, first moving to Tetherdown Hall in 1930.
Muswell Hill is a friendly club offering a wide selection of activities to beginners as well as experts. Members range in age from 10 to 95 and from novices to those with gradings about 200.
A great number of players are in the 130 strength range. They are one of the few clubs in London who hold a yearly all-play-all chess championship; this offers 14 clock games against players with a wide range of abilities. They have two teams in the Middlesex League, the first team (8 boards), which is sometimes in Division 1, sometimes Division 2, and an Under 160 team (4 boards).
Each season they hold a Blitz Championship and a Christmas Blitz, a Find the Move competition, and the Club has a chess lending library available to all members.
Why not spend an evening with them and play several casual games free of charge?
There can be no better way to find out if our club meets your needs.
They meet every Thursday from 7pm to 10:30pm between September and late May.
The venue is in the TETHERDOWN UNITED REFORMED CHURCH HALL, Tetherdown, Muswell Hill, N10. Only a 20 minute walk from Highgate or East Finchley tube stations. From Highgate Tube bus 43 or 134 will get you there in 5 minutes. Many members come by car and there is local parking available. If you phone first we will be prepared to greet you when you arrive.
As you go down Tetherdown from the traffic lights, the U.R.C. Hall is the second building on the left. Enter it not by the front door, but by going up the path to the right of the building as you face it.
The Club is upstairs.
